As the most powerful Escala systems yet, the PL6450R and the PL3250R servers deliver exceptional performance, reliability, scalability and flexibility, enabling businesses to tackle workloads that were previously beyond the reach of any system.
Equipped with 64-bit POWER5+™ processors in up to 64-way (32-way for the PL3250R) symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) configurations, these servers are built to provide the processing power for a full range of complex, mission-critical applications with demanding processing requirements.

New virtualisation features with micropartitioning capabilities allow businesses to increase system utilization, ensuring that applications get the resources they need. Each processor can be subdivided in up to 10 micro-partitions, with a maximum of 254 dynamic partitions for the system.
The shared processor pool allows for automatic non-disruptive balancing of processing power between partitions - resulting in increased throughput and utilisation.

Cost saving functionalities

Error checking and correction routines examine data during ongoing operation and can correct errors in real time. First Failure Data Capture (FFDC) capabilities log both the source and root cause of problems to help prevent the recurrence of intermittent failures that diagnostics cannot reproduce.
Dynamic processor and PCI bus slot deallocation abilities reallocate resources when an impending failure is detected so applications continue to run unimpeded.
